The Primary Primary

As we approach the upcoming election season, it is important to remember that we have two primary elections in New York State this year! First, the presidential primary on April 2, and then the congressional and state primaries on June 25. Because two different primaries can feel overwhelming, we wanted to send a reminder about some key dates and details to ensure a seamless process for you when you cast your vote.

In the presidential primary, all 50 states hold elections over the course of several months to determine the individual candidates for the presidential election in November. At this time, Joe Biden and Donald Trump have enough delegates to clinch their parties’ nominations.
So why bother to vote? Voters in the Democratic primary will also be voting for delegates to the Democratic National Convention this summer. What’s more: in the current media environment, perceived electoral strength matters. So please get out there to vote – and bring friends!

The Presidential Primary Election will be held on April 2. Early voting started on March 23.
