November 2021 Election Alert – Proposed Amendments to the New York State Constitution

On November 2nd New Yorkers will vote to elect city-wide, Bronx, and local officials.  In addition, we will have an opportunity to vote to pass or defeat five ballot proposals on amendments to the New York State Constitution!

The New York State Assembly and Senate voted to send five constitutional amendments to voters for the general election on November 2, 2021.  These ballot proposals address important issues such as the redistricting process, the right to a healthy environment, voter registration deadlines, no-excuse absentee voting, and Civil Courts jurisdiction. Voters will have the chance to vote “Yes” or “No” on each proposal.

To help educate NYC voters before voting begins, the official NYC Voter Guide will feature summaries of each of the five proposals. The on-line Voter Guide will also include public comments in support and opposition of each proposal to allow voters to consider arguments supporting or in opposition to each of these issues.

The official text for each proposal is available from the New York State Board of Elections.

The New York State Constitution amendments before us this November would have far ranging impacts, including the State’s future redistricting process, voters’ right to register, and the ability to vote by absentee ballot without restrictions.  We urge to you to learn more about them, to circulate information about the ballot proposals within your personal networks, and to make voting on these proposals an important part of your November 2021 voting plan.
